NTD Neural Tube Defect
It is a defect in the closure of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) during the early embryonic period (first 28 days of pregnancy). It occurs in approximately 1-2 out of every 1000 live births worldwide. It is a disruption in the process of the neural plate folding into a tube (neurulation).
